I hope this is my last road ride for a bit, but it was fun. 27 miles with 3400 feet of climbing. It included Harmburg Road and Coxey Brown. I think Coxey is tougher than either Harp Hill or Hamburg. Those roads were built for cars. Coxey is built for ox carts.
one section of coxey brown is the toughest road climb I have been on.
ReplyDeleteHave you ridden a road bike up to the end of the paved section on Gilbert road. I've found that to be one of the hardest/steepest sections of road around here? I've hit 50+ mph on the descent!
ReplyDeleteI plan to try and climb gilbert road out the top on a mt rig. Am I dreamin'?
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll find out and get back to you.
Hey Prophet, do you stop at the end of hardtop or go all the way??
-slow
No problem riding Gilbert road to the top with the correct gearing! I wouldn't think about doing it with my road bike. Tires are too skinny (23mm) and the gearing (39X23) is too high for some of the upper sections.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Gilbert Road?
ReplyDeleteGilbert is nearly visible from my house, and definitely visible from Scott's house. Probably not something you'd ride if you start in Fredrock. It's Buchanan State Forest
ReplyDeleteGilbert Road is located off of Apple Way, between Fort McCord (about 1 mile south) and Edenville.
ReplyDeleteWe have ridden road bikes up Gilbert road on many occasions. It's actually worse going down the other side with some washed out pavement and gravel. Regular gears 39x25 or 27 should do it and 23mm tires are just fine.
ReplyDeleteGreat climb - one of the finest since it is also hardpack dirt.
I sure as hell would not be doing that from Frederick unless my name is Contador.
