Tour of PA

It was a great day for a Race. The Tour of PA blow through Chambersburg yesterday. Here are some pictures from the KOM check point at the top of Rt 30 headed toward McConnelsburg.

You've read about it in the paper, you've seen it on the news - catalytic converter theft. Well, yesterday afternoon it hit home. My wife parked our Jeep at Caledonia to take the kids to the pool. When she got back to the vehicle and started it up, it sounded like she was entering a NASCAR race. Lo and behold, someone had cut the catalytic converter off the Jeep and the rest of the exhaust was just hanging there dragging on the ground.

DCNR wrote up a report for our insurance agency and also informed us we were the third victim at Caledonia in the last two days. It ain't cheap to fix when they cut it the way the do, ours is going to be over $1000 to replace.

SO - watch for suspicious activity when you are parking for a ride! If I catch any of these f**kers in the act it's gonna be vigilante justice time....

So the riders are coming through thursday afternoon and we're planning on riding out to the mountain to see them climb. We will meet at the memorial park in chambersburg by the tennis courts and leave at 9:30. I guess we should plan on riding 60 or 70 for the round trip. Sorry i'm late getting this posted. It sounds like there is already a group of between 6 and 10 riders. See you then.

Monday MICHAUX RIDE w/ Joeltrain 6-16-08

Community service trail across 233 to Woodrow , up Stairway to heaven across the top to Tumbling run do a little double track to trail that leads us back to woodrow and who knows from there. What do you think? It doesn't mater!!! Meet at the furnace parking lot at Pine Grove. Ride time 9am!!! Oh yes it does mater what you think.

Southside Sunday

The entrance gate to H or H Trail. The only one to clean it today was a first time rider from Harrisburg, who cleaned it first time without looking. That's now the 3rd time I've watched an out-of-towner clean it straight-up without scoping it. Most locals try it several times, and today we were all 0-for.

One is about to dab, the other already has. One is riding a fixed-gear.

Two of us cleaned this today, both locals with the single-minded advantage.

Thanks for the correction Larry. Is the pink line at the end of Camp 1 the Camp 2 trail?

The attached map shows the tail. It simply parallels Ridge road. Nice flowing single track. Little elevation change. The attached image also shows lollipop.

Pump Track meeting

We received unanimous approval from the council to move ahead to the next steps. Thanks Mark, Mike, Jody, Tim G, Tim M, Joel, Chuck, Martin, Brandon, Greta, and John for making this work!

Memorial weekend bike festy

If you're looking for something to do this weekend besides cleaning up after horses,
this mountain bike festival in Virginia is always fun. Lots of big mountains, and buff singletrack with a very low rock ratio compared to what we're used to. The climbs make up for it though. The descents are sublime. Many of the trails are used for the Shenandoah Mountain 100.

Madness

Michaux Madness-- May 24th & 25th 2008
The Michaux Madness will run this coming weekend (Mem. Day weekend).
100 horses and riders starting from Mont Alto.
They're doing as many as 7 loops (for the 100-miler). I think each loop means they go back to Mont Alto each time to check-in.

"Riding the trail: HELMETS ARE REQUIRED! Once the event has begun, the rider is free to choose his/her own pace as long as P&R criteria into the
Vet Hold Stations are reached before the cut-off times, which will be provided at the ride briefing. The veterinary committee will ensure that the horse
is recovering to the safe parameters of temperature, pulse and respiration, and that there are no signs of excessive fatigue or lameness which
would endanger the horse. All vets checks on Sat are at base camp. On Sun the 100 will have (2) away vet checks and the 55 (1) away vet check.
The terrain is hilly, predominantly wooded, with good drainage. There are some rocky areas and a few challenging hills. There will be some road
riding on hard packed dirt forest roads. Plan to ride accordingly. Shoes are strongly encouraged and pads are optional. Breast collars/cruppers
recommended."

Town Council meeting for pump track

This is the big one folks.

We had a very favorable meeting last week with the Chambersburg Recreation Board. The entire board is supportive of the pump track. Next up is getting Town Council behind it. If you know someone who might be interested in showing support, please pass this along.

I'm posting this up for Jody Eberly (he doesn't have access yet).

Jody is coming to the pump track meeting on Thursday evening and doesn't want to miss a ride, so he will lead a ride on Weds. at 5:00 from Mont Alto.

This is just an additional ride this week, the Thurs. ride is still on too.
