1 is the lonliest number........
I decided to go on a Tuesday night solo of Buckets last evening. Need to improve my pace and stamina. Lower Buckets really gives me fits with all those logs to hop. It seems like so many of them are right around a tight corner or at the top of a steep section. What a beautiful place though.
I made the climb up the road past all the hunters' trucks much more easily than last Thursday night. Been paying attention to what I eat and loading up on those "quality carriers" Carmichael likes to talk about. I was glad to have on some orange to avoid becoming a trophy.
I chased a fat orange sun down turtle and made it back to the lot with some light to spare. What fun!

Fall PA MTB Summit, Oct. 18-19
Hey, everyone, the Fall PA MTB Summit is being held on October 18 and 19 at our house in Northern Michaux. MTB club reps, industry reps, people in the know, and other hangers-on get together to talk about what we can do for mountain biking across the state, share info, see what the state of the union is, and, of course, ride.
There will be group rides on Saturday at noon from our house, probably three groups--a Women's Ride (but guys can go, too) led by Donna, and two other groups. I'm leading one and Chuck B. was kind enough to say he would lead another one if need be.
The meeting will be around 4:00 or so, if anyone wants to stay for it.
On Sunday, we plan to ride from Big Flat at around 10:00, with groups to be determined based on attendance. A second Women's Ride is a possibility if there is interest.

Mavic Wheel Found
Big-E found a front Mavic MTN bike wheel near Big Flat this weekend. If it's yours give him a call at 423 842-9154
There goes my Man Card
Hey MBMers,
I was asked today to do motorcycle support for the IC so this was a perfect chance to wimp out and ride 62 miles with an engine. Let the name calling begin!
This is a great opportunity to pay back the guys from M.O.R.E. (Michaux Off Road Enthusiasts) They are the guys that helped us get Sue out of the woods.
I will have a MBM sticker on the front of my moto and will be carrying tubes, tire boots, tools, a pump, food and some extra water. Flag me down if you need help.
For a small fee I will tow you up the hills.

Skills Clinic
Some talk of a skills clinic garnered energy, so I'll throw this out there. It will be held at a park in Chambersburg. It won't be at the the pump track, but the track is an easy ride away if anyone wants to hit that afterwards.
We won't be doing any Supermans, but we will get the rear wheel in the air. You could call this a rear wheel clinic actually, it's pretty much all we'll do. E-mail me if you're interested. If you don't have my e-mail, Comment this post and I'll get yours. Vote (over there on the right) for which day is better. Will probably last for 1.5-2 hours.

RIDE
Hey Kids
Stump had an idea that I liked so If you don't tell Stump. But be easy on him because he has a hard time keeping friends as we all have seen. This Sunday we will meet at Caledonia at the parking lot as usual. We will ride up secret trail and for the not so timid do raccoon run and a couple trails on top. We will then go back down Secret. Ride time will be 9am.

initiation
Good thing he's already paid up through 2009, he may not come back after today, his first trip to Meeshow. A classic "don't re-group at the intersection..." led Steve to take a different way back to the cars than the rest of us. We took Yellow Hill. He took Blue to Quarry Gap Rd. Chris took Milesburn/233 to look for him. All arrived at the lot with no Steve. Cars dispatched, each assigned a different road. I found a group of backpackers at the top of Quarry Gap that said they saw a solo rider with a gash on his leg 10 minutes prior. Said he descended what I just drove up??? I guess Steve got to the bottom of Quarry Gap and went into the campground trails before I turned up.
A snotty, greasy day up there. No more photos after I buggered up my thumb and couldn't work the camera. I went down hard on a 4" log

A ride with my friends
So I rode with all my friends again tonight. There was barely enough room in the parking lot for everyone. It's a good thing alot of my friends don't drive because we would have had to park cars along 233 and that wouldn't have made the state troopers very happy.
I led the pack out of the lot at 5 pm. We headed across 233 and followed the trails behind campus. The weather was perfect and the pace was pretty quick for such a large group.
At the top of Lost Creek we stopped and posed for another group photo in the clearing. Sometimes it's hard for me to remember the names of all my friends (because I have so many) so I have to take pictures of them all like this one below and make notes later.
The rest of the ride was fast-paced so I really couldn't snap any more pictures. We made it back to the parking lot just as the sun was setting.
I know I'm lucky to have so many friends, but if you are interested, there's probably room for one more on my rides.

Does Evelye Noll still do sports massage in the area? Does anyone have contact info for her?

Another Couple Iron Cross VI Volunteer spots!
Yeah, you'll get tired of me.
We have two more spots that really need volunteers--both gates on the deer exclosure fence on Rattlesnake Ridge off of Michaux Road. DCNR is kind enough to open the big gates for our race, but they require us to have someone at the gates at all times to prevent deer from wandering in. Those pesky Al Quaeda (whtever) terrorist deer.
These spots can be driven to if you have a 4x4 and you can bring an EZ-up, camp chair, drinks, a book, music, whatever to pass the time. This position is probably about 3-4 hours of sitting since the pack is so spread out by that point in the race. Heck, bring a friend and play horseshoes.
If we don't have people to staff the gates, we can't have the deer fence open and that will add another nice twist to the race course....
Thanks!

Iron Cross VI Call for Volunteers
Hey, guys,
Iron Cross VI is fast approaching and we still have volunteer slots left to fill. Would anyone be willing to help out with a fun day in the woods? I'll be running Sweep vehicle all day but we still need some other key people:
Photo 1 transport
Photo 2 transport
Road marshal (Milesburn Rd.)
Lead vehicle (could also be photo transport)
Food helper Sunday
Merchandise sales
Prize table set-up
Beyond this, I am still looking for one or two people to help with course marking and demarking--Friday is key if you can afford a day off work! A race like this takes a ton of people to run and great volunteers are the only thing that keeps it going.
Leave a comment or email me if you want to help out. Thanks!
RIDE
Hey Gang
Congrats to all who suffered thru the race last Sunday. It was hot and sticky. This may seem cruel but I think we need to ride at Old Forge this Sunday. Meet at 8:45 and ride at 9:00am. The trails should be in great shape since the race went through last Sunday. The one nice thing is we won't be racing each other and it looks to be a nice day.
