Keep a good thing going!
This Sunday, Feb 23, is the annual club meeting. It’s at Good Ta Go
in Chambersburg and starts at 1pm. Everyone is welcome but only members can
vote. Regardless, I hope you’ll join us.
I’ve been an officer in MBM for four years. Two years as
Secretary and two years as President. In
that time I have tried to do many things and controversial or not, my ultimate
goal was to keep a good thing going. It wasn’t easy, at times it wasn’t fun but
I did it anyway because I want others to enjoy the same life changing
experience I had in 2007. That was the year I started riding in Michaux.
I found MBM searching the internet for trail maps of Michaux.
When I attended my first MBM ride I failed miserably. However, to my surprise
the group encouraged me to come back and stick with it. Thanks to that
encouragement I did stick with it and today I love riding trails. The tradition
of encouraging others defines MBM. It is my hope that tradition continues.
MBM is a successful, respected organization. The officers,
volunteers and members change lives for the better more than they will ever
know. I am proof of this and so are many of you. So please consider becoming an
officer and accepting the torch to help keep a good thing going! If you’re
interested in leading MBM into the new year please attend the meeting or contact
me if you can’t make it.
I know many of you are wondering what will become of the
club. The fact is you as members ultimately decide the course of MBM. At this
time I have yet to receive notification of any member nominated to run for
office. If we do not have members interested in maintaining the organization as
officers my only option is to refer to our bylaws and disband the club.
Attend the meeting, step up and take the torch, keep a good
thing going!
See you at a ride soon? Hope so.

Great size frame which fits many people well between a large and medium. If you want to take your riding to the next level get an SS. It will make you stronger and better in the rough stuff. $750. Michaux Snow Updates
I am really looking forward to getting back out on the bike!
With the weather looking much warmer in the week to come, I thought a thread with some updates may come in handy. If anybody gets out for a hike or shoe or ski, please give an update as to any ridability that is noted whether fireroad or trail.
Thanks all!

3D printed mountain bikes?
If I was a betting man, I'd put money on Seeber having one of these by spring or at least before anyone else....

Annual Meeting and Nominations
It will soon be time for the annual meeting. This is the one time of year that old and new business will be discussed among the membership as well as the election of officers. As stated in Article IV, Section 4 of our Bylaws (That's right...we have Bylaws):
Elections will
be held annually during the month of
February and will include a two-week
nominating period and thirty days notice to the membership prior to the election date. All nominees who meet the
requirements for office (Article VI,
Section 2.) shall be eligible for
election.
In order to meet the "requirements for office" you must be a paid member for the election year (Bike Reg for 2014 membership renewal is up and running :-). It is possible that the meeting will be held as early as February 1st this year (stay tuned, more details to follow). Now seemed like a good time to get the nominations rolling. I know this won't allow for the required "thirty days notice", but this is more notice than was given in years past.
If you would like to nominate an officer (self-nominations are fine), please post a comment. If there is enough interest, written ballots will be used this year.
If you are nominated, please consider giving the membership a mission statement.

Happy New Year!
On behalf of the officers I would like to wish everyone a Safe and Happy New Year!
The past year would not have been successful without the help of those members and friends who contributed to the future of our organization through volunteering for our club. Thank You! Your time and generosity is much appreciated!!
I would also like to specially thank Jess and Kent at Gettysburg Bicycle and Fitness. Many of you may not know that our club was on the brink financial failure a few years back. Gettysburg Bicycle provided MBM the opportunity to earn our keep so that we could continue being a gateway for mountain bike enthusiasts in Michuax State Forest. Gettysburg Bicycle has also provided benefits to becoming a member of MBM which far outweigh the cost of membership. Thank You Gettysburg Bicycle!
I would also like to thank Mike and the Iron Cross for their continued support of MBM and our annual MBM Checkpoint in the 2013 Iron Cross. We look forward to seeing you all at the top of Hike-A-Bike Hell in 2014!
My past two years as President of MBM have seen many changes to our club and to the forest we call home. It was also my intention to "Build Bridges" and we have been extremely successful. We have tried to erase lines drawn between riding contingents, initiate constructive communication with Forestry and close gaps between user groups in hopes that everyone can get along and all will have a voice in Michaux. There is still much progress to be made.
Recently we have seen a significant increase in the recreational use of Michaux's trail systems. The stress this creates on the natural resource has not gone unnoticed. I encourage everyone to be good stewards of this gift we enjoy. Respect trail usage signs, tread lightly and exercise common sense and tolerance. If we are responsible members of the forest community it will be unnecessary to legislate responsibility in the forest. Keep our forests free!
As mountain bikers we must yield the right of way on trails. To your credit, most of you do this already. This courtesy greatly improves our image and strengthens the bonds between user groups. It only takes a second to stop and step aside.
A few years ago one of our current members (and a past MBM president) worked with the Borough of Chambersburg to create The Chambersburg Pump Track at the corner of Hood and King streets in town. This year the Chambersburg Town Council, Chambersburg Athletic Department and Volvo Construction Equipment (Shippensburg) enabled MBM members to extend the Pump Track and create a new jump line. The park was renamed Chambersburg Bike Park and represents bicycle advocacy and cooperation between local business, city officials and local organizations. I would like to extend our gratitude to Chambersburg and Volvo CE for making this possible. I also invite you to visit the Chambersburg Bike Park. It's fun and free! (Open during daylight hours and only when the track is clear and dry)
To everyone that contributed to the success of MBM in the past year we thank you!
Remember to Thank your Ride Leader and Sweeper in 2014!
Happy New Year everyone and see you at a ride soon!

It was over 40 at the house this morning at 5:30...stuff was melting most of the night. At this rate, the white is going to disappear quick. You guys might be able to ride trail by Sunday!
Thought I'd post up since in the valley it was at freezing or below on the way to work, by contrast.
