  1. Fun ride today! 15 miles and over 2200 feet of climb. I've got a new bike purchase authorized! The Jekyll may soon turn into a Prophet! If you would like the GPS track data for today's ride let me know. If you already asked it's on the way.

  3. That Spoogy bit looks interesting,
really glad we hung a right instead of a left.

  4. A Prophet? What about a Rize? That was a nice bike when I test rode one last year.

Sorry we didn't catch you guys but it was a good ride. No gps on this one though.

  5. The Rize and Prophet are both "all-mountain" bikes so yeah, I'd consider a Rize. Merv happens to have a leftover Prophet hangin' so I was thinking about that. I've also read that the Prophet is better for bigger riders and I'm almost 200lb so...

Larry and Jodi (and Chris I think) are telling me to think hard about a 29er if I'm going to get something so now I'm confused. A 29er full suspension rig will probably be too much $$ new and there aren't too many on the used market yet. We'll see. I may hold out for something with a lefty if I stay with 26" bike. I do want something new to ride on Thursday tho! :-)

  6. I'd go with a 29er. Although a gently pre-owned Yeti AS-R would be pretty sweet! And I know of one soon to be for sale...

  7. Hey Bucky your the King of second hand. Help a brother out here. You could sell him your Hi-Fi.

  8. So give me the specs on your Yeti. I'm in shopping mode and may pull the trigger any day. Think I've just talked myself out of a Gary Fisher HiFi 29er. Carbon seat stays are vulnerable ($275 ea) and I still fall too much. Need a really durable bike and the Cannondale hasn't failed me yet.

  9. Kona Hei Hei 29er...I have one and dig it. It's a monster truck.

Oh yeah, the Rize was fine under me and I'm over 200. I only suggested the RIze if you're looking at a little-wheeled C-Dale. Otherwise, get a 29er.

I put crash pads on my GF29r HF seat stays and they work great.
29rs are front heavy because of the long chain stay. Makes it hard to ride big drops without nosing in. The Duster wheels aren't very stiff in the technical stuff.
I'm leaning toward a 26 for the rocky tech trails in Michaux.
I like the new Trek Fuel EX8.

  12. sounds like One vote from anony to go back to a 26er after a 29er.

how many went from 26er to 29er and never looked back?

I like my FS 26er and my singlespeed 29er. But give me a FS 29er to go with my SS 29er and I couldn't think of a reason to ride little wheels again. Anyone got a FS 29er I can mooch? :)

  14. rigid 69'er with 1X9 gearing is the way to go - that is unless you XC race.

Most xc races are still won on 26'ers.

  15. Well, I pulled the trigger yesterday and got a Prophet 2 Merv had. Spent over an hour test riding and fitting and am very happy. The bike was local, the price was right, etc.. Fox Float front fork, Fox RP2 rear shock, Juicy 5 brakes.....

I'm sure there is a 29er in my future, perhaps a hardtail like Mooch's as a second bike. I thought about doing that instead but am too chicken to leave full suspension and have a hardtail as my only ride.

  16. Cool. If you're happy, it doesn't really matter what the rest of us knuckleheads say. Enjoy the new bike!

  17. I made the switch and am switching back. Pa Biker has it right when he says 26er for xc racing, but If I was riding Michaux all the time and not racing, I would probably would have stayed 29er. Great choice on the Cannondale though.
