WUSSED OUT BECAUSE OF THE RAIN

Left my house this morning, with the bike, in the rain. Got to Caledonia, turned around, came home, berated myself, BUT DID NOT WHINE, while watching this guy..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o To those of you who raced today.... please post your race day adventures!

  1. Yeah, Danny is an awesome rider, but he probably wouldn't have ridden in the rain either! Lol.

I was up yesterday and rode some of the race course. The rocky trails were pretty rough, I can't imagine trying to tackle them when wet!

  2. It was an interesting morning of racing! It's rare to be looking forward to rocks, but with all the mud the rocks were much-needed traction. I signed-up for 20 against my better judgement and ended up completing only 10 due to accumulated mechanicals including NO rear brake from the start! My first DNF. Congrats to Trish and Joel on their wins!

Gettysburg Bike told me that last year was exceptionally wet and everything should be much drier this year. Apparently they never heard the rhyme about April showers! Let's lobby to have the muddy trails removed from this race and go back to the classic course. Ironmaster's style. Gettysburg puts on a great event, but these trails should not be used when it's wet!

  4. I finished 9th in 20-miler vet. I rode surprisingly well but everytime I went fast I got mud in my eyes so that took me out of my game. I had a good battle with Paul for much of the race. He's riding great! Congrats to Matt, Joel and Trish on their wins. Joel won the 20 overall! It was Trish's first Maximus and she won the chick's 20 miler.

I felt as though I was riding strong for the day. Once I gave up on trying to use my brakes, I was able to hang on tighter and really start to rip. My legs haven't had a workout like this in awhile, neither has the drain of my shower. I'll be tearing that apart, and cleaning the bike tomorrow.

  6. Well I also had a good day. The race was alot of fun for all the rain and mud. i kept my nose clean with my fender but my ass was packed with mud after i fell into a black mud hole. I did fine until 4 miles out when a stick went into my front wheel and tore my valve stem off. Made the repair and road on to the finish. Congets to all the winners!!! I really liked the course.

  7. Congrats to everyone who braved the mud and rain. I really wish I could have been there with you. And a big "you suck" to those who turned around and went home.

  8. I attemped the 40...my goal was to finish.
It was the hardest, muddiest, loamiest, best mountain bike race i have ever done.
I was planning on riding with my pal, Chili (Jill Wiest), but she got a flat in the first 5 miles and would not let me wait for her, so it was just me and the Nugget. Got all the way to Michaux Road and was told I couldn't continue (about mile 35), so I rode the hard road back up to ATV lot.

    1 near flat
    1 hard crash
    Lots of great trails
    I had a great day!
