Old Maximus 10-miler will most likely be a slophole this time of year.
The other two are good ideas. Could do a heck of a loop in the Central tying those together if people are up for climbing...I count at least three climbs in my head.
How about doing the stooges backwards and come back on southern gas? Or if we do Central we have the log climb back up Milsburn. I like the central loop except for the road climb. I get a lot of complaints about the Bendersville loop because of a lot of the trails have been ridden hard by four wheelers and are very rocky. But we do like rocks!
Climbing stooges, my butt . . . I vote Central. If we're gonna climb, lets do it this time of year. After all, you know what they say: 'what goes up, gets to come back down real fast and make loud whooping noises, unless the ride ends at the top and then the ride got to start with downhill whooping' . . . or I think they say something like that.
So, just remembered I won't be able to be there this sunday. So! You guys should do the Mash course backwards a few times. Descend CanadaHollow and climb Scientology. Sounds awesome!
Just a heads up for your future ride plans. Tumbling run has been posted not sure where all it's been done but for sure at zimmermans/deer bingo and jakes. Also, any old timers or anybody who's ever ridden Deer Trail or knows where it is it's still there and clear & rideable.
Ok soooooo we will meet at the mash starting point.I like these ideas. I'll make the post. Thanks. You all can give me some more ideas so we don't get bored riding the same ol stuff or meeting at the spots.
I agree Ho. I ride the same stuff all the time but as long as I'm on my bike it dosen't matter what trail I'm on. Great rides start in Michaux and beyond.
We haven't done anything from the Bendersville parking lot in a long time.
ReplyDeleteSouth: Rocky Ridge, Virginia or Southern Gas.
ReplyDeleteCentral: Mad Scientist, Scientology and Three Pines.
North: The old Maximus 10 mile has some good trails if they are dry and someone knows the loop.

If we do Central where do you want to park. (Caledoina, Long Pine or Birch Run)?
ReplyDeletemy 2 cents is that we need to move our parking locations around. the same old spots get boring.
ReplyDeleteWe could park at the Mash starting spot.
ReplyDeleteThe gasline crossing on Rattlesnake Run Rd. offers plenty of room for parking and would eliminate the boring road climb from Old Forge.
ReplyDeleteI like DRW's idea. The Mash starting point would eliminate the Milesburn road climb and we could climb Canada Hollow to finish. WEE!
ReplyDeleteI'll 3rd the vote for the Mash start!! or something like that!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the Mash start?
ReplyDeleteLet's bomb mad scientist and climb Scientology. The mash parking is the intersection right?
ReplyDeletebomb canada hollow, climb gilbert, bomb scientology, climb canada hollow, bomb mad scientist, climb milesburn.
ReplyDeleteclimb scientology? have the races brainwashed you?
oh yeah, Howard, the old Mash start is the junction of Ridge and Means Hollow Roads (and Canada Hollow and the AT)

What about Virginia and Mackey? The other ride sounds good, except climbing Scientology.

ReplyDeleteI wanna watch Slow climb Scientology!

ReplyDeleteChief, the same old spots and loops are some of the best rides in the forest, but even the best of anything can get old.
ReplyDeleteI would like riding virginia and mackey. That would be fun.
