Yes, last time I was down it a few weeks ago. They are logging part way down, so you'll have to search for the trail on the other side of the log landing.
Thanks, Wiser. We'll see how the ride's going. We could always cut out on the downhill on Traverse if we have tired folks. What's the name of that trail that's west of Cold Spring (across the creek, up the climb) below Traverse?
So which one is the trail that climbs from the double-track (goes away from Cold Spring)? Is Buck Ridge the double-track that parallels Cold Spring? I can't seem to get the trail names in there straight.
I think the double track paraelling cold springs you're referring to is buck ridge. It used to be an old enduro/ mounting bike trail and has now been claimed by kings gap and is off limits for MTb , I believe it has either red or yellow blazes. Upper moss breaks off of traverse not too far from the cold springs end of traverse, crosses buck ridge and ends at the spring house. If you would keep descending it will bring you out near the bottom of cold springs rd., or you could cross the creek and cross weitzels trail and end up on leaper farm rd.
Rode Vista Saturday, the logging only affects a very small bit of the last section. Will reroute it once they're done in there...looks like the rocky spine is the boundary of the new cut.
We saw some of the enduros while we were going up Michaux Rd and waited at the top for most of them to exit the trail before we went in. I was surprised to see 1000cc+ bikes in the group!
So how did Spooge handle the traffic? The part of the block trail that they rode on is pretty much a whole new trail now. Why can't they just ride the trail????
When you get oversized guys on oversized bikes on techy single track, momentum carries them through straighter lines than what us MTBers have established. Once a few riders have done so, the new line has been ridden in and the rest of the pack follows suit. I'm sure they don't intend to screw up the trails, but yes, they do. Also, in the Dual Sport ride there are options as whether to ride sections of single track or not. Obviously, if you chose to ride a KTM 990 on Jerry's Flat, you've made the wrong choice.

there are 2 adjoining trails below traverse. Upper & Lower moss they are divided by buck ridge and lower moss ends at the spring house.

ReplyDeleteI noticed on my way home today the Enduro guys were running, did you guys see them on your ride?
ReplyDeleteI saw the Enduro sweeper/arrow puller on my afternoon ride. He was going up Spooge as I rode down it.
ReplyDeleteThat really overgrown section is less so now.
