Michaux Snow Updates

I am really looking forward to getting back out on the bike!
With the weather looking much warmer in the week to come, I thought a thread with some updates may come in handy. If anybody gets out for a hike or shoe or ski, please give an update as to any ridability that is noted whether fireroad or trail.
Thanks all!

  1. I am with you DRW. My bikes are covered with dust instead of mud and I'm stiff and sore from clearing snow instead of falling off my bike. I'll be keeping an eye on the trails. Hiking is ok but I need some wheels under my butt

  2. 9 of us snow shoed from Caledonia today. About 3.5 miles and 900 ft of elevation according to the Garmin. Took us about 3 hours. The snow is DEEP!

  4. Glad to here that there are others with snowshoes in the club. Where did yins go from Caledonia? Any other good spots to park at (since not all of our mtb lots will be plowed) and go shoeing? I was thinking that the lots at Pine Grove Furnace would be plowed. Hopefully there will be some snowshoe outings posted here before all the snow the gone.

    (thanks auto-correct!)

  5. Did a 4-hour ski tour from the Ski/Fitness trails up onto Snaggy Ridge and back down. Deep snow, but it will melt fast later this week. Then the woods will be a bloody muddy mess. The best we can hope for is freezing cold until late March, then several dry weeks to start April.

There have been ski and snowshoe tours going all over Meeshow it sounds like.

    More snow please.

  6. secret trail has a broken track about half way up, then the track turns right, crosses 233 and goes almost straight up to the ridge, at that point it meets up with the AT and goes north back to Caledonia. It's 2000+ calories of fun. If you want to try it in the other direction you can pick up the track just west of the Thadeus Stevens Blacksmith shop on the south side of RT. 30.

  7. I saw a bunch of tracks on that gas-line that cuts across the bottom of Secret and across 233. Couldn't tell if they were snowboards or snowmobiles.

  8. we thought it was sledding tracks, might have been snow boarders. either way it's a nice steep pitch with not much room to stop at the bottom.

  9. Any updates?
How are the roads? Am I kidding myself if I think I can go take my new 'cross bike for a go at the fire roads? Itching to get out!

  10. If you don't mind getting it muddy, you might be able to give it a go on Saturday. Supposed to be pretty warm between now and then.

  11. Myself and Chris B Rode Oak, then over Wirt and down Staley. Adventurous to say the least. I had fun but I enjoy twisted rides. Sections were good where snowmobiles had traveled but others were walk a bikes. Nice to get out though!! Come on spring!!

  12. Fire/gravel roads may be good tomorrow for a proper gravel ride???? Anyone wanna get out there and put a few hours in on cross bikes?

  13. If roads on North Michaux are anything like south cross bikes would be a mission of misery. I will gladly come out though, but on the Monkey.
