Cancer Awareness Ride

I'm posting this for Steve Nevada. I'm hoping to make this ride as my sister-in-law has just been diagnosed with colon cancer. Perhaps some of you also have people to ride for.

What: Inaugural Spokes for Hope

When: Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 – 1:00 p.m.

Where: Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Penn State Hershey Medical Center

Fellow Riders,

The CFO of the company I work for is a cancer survivor and an avid cyclist. She has been tasked with recruiting local riders to ride with core group of stage riders.

I am participating and this is my appeal for others such as you to participate too.

The goal is to get somewhere around 35 cyclists to volunteer. If you are interested in participating let me know (send me an email to address below). We would greatly appreciate your time and support.

Thanks,

Steve

FYI - the route will probably be no more than 18 miles. More info in comments --->

  1. Cyclists Combating Cancer (CCC) will be riding from California to Washington, D.C. as part of Spokes for Hope to educate the community on how to prevent, detect and treat cancer as well as the resources available; build awareness of the number of lives touched by cancer; advocate for the government and private support necessary to beat this disease; and display passion for life as a testimony that there is life beyond cancer.

Along the route, cyclists will be stopping at major metropolitan areas and major cancer centers with Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute being a stop. Local residents will be asked if they are interested in participating in the ride from Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute to the Governor’s Mansion, Harrisburg, on Sunday, September 13, following a kick-off ceremony at the Medical Center at 1:00 p.m.

    Proposed timeline:
    12:30 p.m.
cycling team and bikes arrive from Pittsburgh
    1:00 p.m. – 1:50p
    welcome guests
thank the team for visiting Penn State Hershey,
CCC coordinator shares details about CCC and why the team is riding today.
    1:50 p.m. –
Cycling team leaves for Governor’s Mansion, Harrisburg.

News media, family, friends, local elected officials, and the Penn State Hershey community will be invited to attend and support the cyclists.
