SHIT don't mean to use bad words but Gary let me down. Getten my bike ready for Sundays ride and found a big ole crack on the swing arm. Sold my backup bike (Shit again) Well I sure hope Gary hasn't sold the farm.

MBM Goes To Williamsburg

Neither work nor heat nor a murderous onslaught of bloodthirsty ticks will stop us from our weekly mountain bike ride! While in Williamsburg for a trade show Brian and I hit the Marl Ravine trail. This is a great 6 mile loop that is a twisting, turning, diving, climbing, rooty funfest. Numerous log-overs add to the fun factor. Not hard by Michaux standards but great fun!

The only downside was that at the end of the ride Brian lost count after picking the 12th or 13th tick off himself. I didn't have a single one on me but Brian was on cobweb duty out front most of the ride and I went pretty heavy on the DEET. Maybe he was bushwhacking up ahead.

If you are headed to VA Beach and want a fun ride check out Marl Ravine trail in York River State Park near Williamsburg, VA. Make sure to put on the bug juice first!

Added bonus on the Thursday night ride

It was a beautiful Thursday evening and a fun ride. Our ride leader (Sue) took us on some "pink lines" that worked out rather well (Good job Sue!!). As of Thursday Lower Buckets was still there. Upper Buckets requires pink lines to make it out the other side. Coal Hearth was also free from logging (again as of Thursday). As usual somehow I ended going through some trees. I came out the other side like this. The extra helmet accoutrement stayed with me throughout the rest of the ride. I think Paul from Texas thought I was little imbalanced.

For Sale--OS Blackbuck and 80mm Manitou Minute 29er Fork

I've reached the conclusion that my Blackbuck is too small for me. So I'm selling the frame and fork. Of Spirit is a side project by Mark Slate, one of the founders of WTB. Here's the website with information on the frame:

I'm asking $550 for the frame and Manitou fork. There's a few rock scratches from Michaux, of course, but no dents or anything. I rode this bike perhaps 8-10 times total?

Virginia

Virginia is cleared of all unplanned down trees and branches. Ride it if you get a chance. Then go and tangle yourself up in the deer fences on Rocky Ridge. It needs some traffic!

Rainbows & Unicorns - Saturday Double Metric Century

Saturday @ 8am from 5th ST in Frederick.

Double metric century (125 mile) road ride up into PA on some good roads.  Great way to get a good ride in before Father's Day.  We'll be finished in the early afternoon.

Pace will be "Enthusiastic Effort" rather than "Hammer Fest" or "Chill Ride".

A nice look at some true single track. I went up and cut out all the down trees for a little Saturday night trail maintenance,...three I knew about  and one didn't. You should be able to cruise through pretty nicely.  Look around a bit, it could be the largest stand of trees in the woods. This trail won't be there long.

If you can't make Sunday

If you can't make the Sunday ride (like me) and are free Saturday at least two of us if not more are riding Saturday @8:30a from the bottom of Dead Womans Hollow and 233. Not a lot of parking there, but feel free to come along. The more the merrier.

Tour de Cure MTB Ride

Despite the impending doom of high winds, hail and heavy rains, another successful Tour happened yesterday at Big Flat in Michaux.

Thank you to the MBM team members and riders---Stephanie Mader, Brad Wertz, Sue Witter, Mark Colucci, Sheena Perry and Christina Bohensky! With your help, we raised over $3,500 as a team!! Now we need to top that for next year!!

A HUGE thank you to all that came out to mark course, check course, float, sweep course and for moral support: Jody Eberly, Chris Brattaur, Don Pagano, Travis Coldsmith, Brian Banus, Dave Clay and Larry Camp.

Lastly, thank you to Brett for all his hard work in making this happen!

Please put this on your calendar for next year---it is such a great charity event that is in our backyard! It's also a great feeling to experience the comraderie of the participants in this type of event knowing you are helping others.

This chapter of the American Diabetes Association is the ONLY chapter in the whole country that is doing a mountain bike event and there needs to be more people to make it keep happening!

A lot of intermediate level riders come to this event and I feel that we, as more experienced riders, can give encouragement and support to keep these more "recreational" riders on their bikes!

Hopefully I'll see you next year!

Hope all went well at the tour de cure. I had T post a ride for Sunday. I forgot about the tour. Sorry about pulling people away for the tour. The good news only 3 showed for the ride. I was in Myrtle Beach and had no way to check the blog. Too busy playing. Again hope all went well.

Gottum and lived!

I was riding in/near Colonial Denning park this morning and while on a fire road there, had a squirrel dart out in front of me and then back again (saw lots of other wildlife). Unfortunately, it wasn't fast enough and I nailed it with both tires while (I) going 17-18 mph. It wasn't even fazed and ran back off of the road. I've had a fear of getting something caught in my spokes and then crashing big time but I always think "treat it like a speed bump". It worked today and I was glad to be on my mountain bike and not the road bike!

DirtFest ride report

DirtFest was a lot of fun. I got there Friday, parked at the Five Points trail head and hit Stoney to Doe to Switch down to the fest area. I talked to several vendors while they were setting up and was offered lots of swag like bottles, stickers, etc.

The registration table was handing out Stans sealant and really nice laminated pocket maps of the trail system. The maps came in handy and are definitely keepers.

Friday night was a band and beer tasting. Great weather and a good time had by all. The only areas well lit were the beer tent and band tent. I frequently had to recharge my glow in the dark beer mug under the lights near the tap. I recall that worked out even better than expected!


I hit the trails Saturday with the MBMVP and his family. Lots of families were there.

I took the long travel bike for lack of anything else in operable condition and had a great time. The suspension loaded up at the bottom of the humps and helped launch the bike over the next one. Minimal pedal effort except on climbs. Lots of people but plenty of room. Trails were mostly dry and in good shape despite rain earlier in the week. I encountered no traffic jams slowing the trails at all. Most people were riding up the road and down the trails. It worked out well.



The Hydro Loop intersection seemed to be the congregation point. Hydro was one way and people were hanging out, riding loops and socializing.

I headed home Saturday afternoon just as the rain set in.
My phone doesn't have a flash so none of the pics I took Friday night came out. Sorry.

I think the trails have great flow. I think it is possible to go through entire sections with very little pedal input. Other areas make you pay for it. I had a great time. I will go back.

Another ride for the books.... those of you who have ridden with Crashed as 'Leader' will be able to use your imaginations.... I may need a blood transfusion after 'bushwackin' thru the endless briars, as we followed the 'pink' lines on his GPS.
