Didn't you know??....GF's are disposable!!!

Yep, this is the perfect excuse for me to upgrade to that One 9 I`ve been dreaming of.

glad to hear you found your creak. That was a pain a$$$$ ridng behind you sunday with the noise.

I though GF only broke at tubes welds. I know the giants had problems with the drop out. Wonder if in tiawan the bikes are build in the same shop (trek and gf). You must be the 5 percent they have defects on for their work.

That's what I like about gary. About the time you get tired of your frame it breaks and you get a new one.

I love perfect excuses!

Ho - I'm pretty happy with the 2012 Trek replacement, in case you decide not to go with the Niner splurge and take the warranty.

I'm pretty happy with my '09 Rig.
The way it just sits there in the garage is flawless!
I plan to hang it on the wall soon.

You'll never get new frame that way, Slow!!!!!!

Why don't you bring it to the ride tomorrow. I'll be sportin' my SS since I destroyed the Salsa's drivetrain last Sunday.

hey prophet
You couldn't get another hanger? Or did you do more damage?

Slowride said...

Haven't you read the blog? Rig's are garage ornaments. If you actually ride them they break!

Get out of the stoned ages and get carbon fibroids!

Carbon & Michaux = NO........I`ve yet to see on that`s not failed, even with nonagressive riders.

Really??? How about Churtle and the countless aggressive/fast riders that ride Michaux on CF? I thought that too but now I realized that's really hogwash.

Dale, the Salsa requires the dropout/hanger to be replaced and you have to buy them in pairs so it took a few days to get a new set of dropouts. Also, the derailleur and chain are junk so I need more parts.

Scott
Yea looks like alot of parts to get just to replace a hanger. Would be hard to carry all that stuff in your camel back. good luck with your repairs and see ya at the next ride

The highly skilled, insanely quick people who never crash are anomalies. CF was made for them. Whereas touch up paint was made for me.

Really?.......I guess aggressive is all relative to your perspective. An aggressive DH'er would see thing different tthan an aggressive cc rider.......

I would say Cf is not for everyone to ride. Myself i had 3 mtb rides with CF. I had a giant in 90's which held up since it was only on the tubes. But was cracked when I through it out.

The 95 GF I had lasted 1 month in michaux riding. It was a bad glue design from GF at bottom bracket. I came down from piney road off huckle berry trail to "flat tire". Flat tire trail has alot of loose rocks and one killed it.

I cracked my ARS yeti 3 years ago (2008) from hitting rocks. My problem is the low crank arm and your pedaling downhill or loose rocks. It lasted a year and my chain stay was cracked. Steve ricey even cracked his 575 carbon bike that year.

Steve is a way better rider than me (rode moto since 80's and does motorcycle trials riding). Point is the skills doesn't always mean the bike build or material be good for one rider than another.

I'm just hard on my toys and a heavy rider so i break more. i even break carbon for post and handle bars for mtb rides.

I read a few years back that some builder won't warrenty a bike used on the east coast as defect. They claim the bike broke from a crash and want to use the replacement policy not 100 percent warrenty. I believe that was cannondale or santa cruz back in 2003.

Howard should be happy they warrenty the frame 100 percent not pay some $150 or $300 to get a replacement frame (I think yeti want $150 to replace my frame, but I gave it away to lbs employee).

Question for howard is the bike shop making him pay for shipping on the warrenty? If no cost then he's getting a good deal.
