Solstice Lunar Eclipse Ride, 2:50 A.M. Tuesday

Since a full lunar eclipse will happen on the winter solstice only once in our lives (unless Methuselah is out there somewhere), Donna and I are planning to ride our mtn bikes starting at 2:50 A.M. Tuesday morning from our house.

What the hell?

Yes, Donna and I are planning to ride our mountain bikes from our house, starting at 2:50 A.M. Tuesday morning. Butt on saddle, out the driveway. The conditions may be iffy with cloud cover, but, dangit, there's still an eclipse happening up there. It'll be pretty dark for a full moon! The height of Totality is going to happen at 3:17, which is when the moon will be in the deepest part of the Earth's shadow. We want to be in the woods on our bikes when it happens.

"How the heck am I supposed to pull this off?" you ask.

Go to bed as soon as you get home from work. Wake up in time to get to our house and on your bike for the 2:50 start time. Ride. Get cleaned up, stop for breakfast, and go to work. Sleep on your desk knowing you did something very few other people pulled off on this winter solstice. You can thank us later.

"I read once where the best mountain bike rides end at the ER. Not sure that’s true, but that’s what happened yesterday. Fortunately Caledonia is close to Chambersburg but unfortunately Roy Pitz is closed on Sunday for an after ride/ER tasting session.

Seriously…. Brad rode out of the woods, from midway on what I believe is Yellow Ridge trail, back to the vehicle, one legged and there was no crying like a baby. ER doctor pulled it out without having to amputate. Brad’s almost as good as new."
I hope Brad doesn't get in trouble for transporting firewood out of the state forest. You know they're trying to reduce the spreading of wood-borne pests.

I'm looking for someone to do the Sunday rides for about 4-5 weeks. I injured myself and can't ride so there's no sense in me choosing the ride location, unless you all don't mind me choosing an not being there.

We had a nice trip to Virginia this past weekend where we rode the ridges that form Fort Valley near Elizabeth Furnace. Really rocky and technical trails with alot of leaves on them - you know, heaven.

Ride time

Sorry we left two riders in the lot today but ride time is 9am not arrival time. When it is warm it's not bad waiting but when it is cold learn to ride fast or by yourself. Again I applogize :-) :-)
