Blue Knob ride Nov. 2

Posted for Mike Mucker & LHORBA
All,

We will ride at Blue Knob with friends from the Pittsburgh area on Sunday
Nov. 2nd. Even though we will all be riding together I am putting together 3
ride options. Which one you pick will depend on how much climbing you want
to do and how many miles you want to ride. All options will include riding
all the Resort Side trails, and on the State Park side: Lookout, Roller
Coaster and Rock N Ridge to the bottom. We can shuttle you back to your car
if you did not start at Pavia Run.

Here are the options. All times listed are ride times not meet times.

1. 10:15AM at Pavia Run Pavilion. Climb Crist Ridge and Chappell Fields
to meet up at Sawmill/Chappell Fields.

2. 11:00AM at the Sawmill / Chappell Fields Trailhead on the right
side. Climb Mountain View and Three Springs to meet at the top of the ski
lifts.

3. 11:45AM at the parking lot at the top of the ski lifts.

Note:

November 2nd at Blue Knob can be anything from 60 degrees and sunny to 30
degrees with rain, snow and high winds. It is a good idea to check your
favorite weather site so that you know how to dress for this ride. Blue Knob
State Park and Resort can be found on weather.com.

Big Weekend

First I'd like to thank Brett and Donna Weiser for hosting the PA mountain bike summit at their house. People like the Weisers are the reason I love the mountain biking community. They do a ton of work to promote our sport and are the same folks that organize the Iron Cross races. I don't know how they get it all done.

Most of the people from the summit stayed for the Sunday ride. We split up into 3 groups but it still didn't help.

It was a typical Michaux ride, lots of flats, a ripped off derailleur ( sorry Chris ) , and the group got spread out so big nobody could keep track of everyone. Luckily we all made it back to Big Flat.

This was the high point of the weekend for me. On Saturday my Sibex Ti fork was sacrificed to the rock Gods. So I made a speed run to Merv's and bought a Karate Monkey frame and fork.

So I got to ride a new bike on Sunday, weee I love that new bike feeling.

Events at Mike's Building

MBMer Mike A. wanted to post some info about a couple of his happenings; one at "The Building"; and the other at the Old Old Jail. I guess before The Building turns into a winter spin-cycle and skills park, it will be an art gallery for photographers. His other event is across the street and a bit on the dark side (doesn't that mean single-speed???)

Nice Nite Ride

Chris's friends come out after dark.

This was my first real night ride, and it was really cool. The single speed was tougher than usual in the dark. It's hard to keep that momentum when you can't see what's coming next. Hopefully it will help my daylight riding.

1 is the lonliest number........

I decided to go on a Tuesday night solo of Buckets last evening. Need to improve my pace and stamina. Lower Buckets really gives me fits with all those logs to hop. It seems like so many of them are right around a tight corner or at the top of a steep section. What a beautiful place though.

I made the climb up the road past all the hunters' trucks much more easily than last Thursday night. Been paying attention to what I eat and loading up on those "quality carriers" Carmichael likes to talk about. I was glad to have on some orange to avoid becoming a trophy.

I chased a fat orange sun down turtle and made it back to the lot with some light to spare. What fun!

Fall PA MTB Summit, Oct. 18-19

Hey, everyone, the Fall PA MTB Summit is being held on October 18 and 19 at our house in Northern Michaux. MTB club reps, industry reps, people in the know, and other hangers-on get together to talk about what we can do for mountain biking across the state, share info, see what the state of the union is, and, of course, ride.

There will be group rides on Saturday at noon from our house, probably three groups--a Women's Ride (but guys can go, too) led by Donna, and two other groups. I'm leading one and Chuck B. was kind enough to say he would lead another one if need be.

The meeting will be around 4:00 or so, if anyone wants to stay for it.

On Sunday, we plan to ride from Big Flat at around 10:00, with groups to be determined based on attendance. A second Women's Ride is a possibility if there is interest.

Mavic Wheel Found

Big-E found a front Mavic MTN bike wheel near Big Flat this weekend. If it's yours give him a call at 423 842-9154

There goes my Man Card

Hey MBMers,
I was asked today to do motorcycle support for the IC so this was a perfect chance to wimp out and ride 62 miles with an engine. Let the name calling begin!
This is a great opportunity to pay back the guys from M.O.R.E. (Michaux Off Road Enthusiasts) They are the guys that helped us get Sue out of the woods.
I will have a MBM sticker on the front of my moto and will be carrying tubes, tire boots, tools, a pump, food and some extra water. Flag me down if you need help.
For a small fee I will tow you up the hills.
Jody

night rides

Hunting season is upon us. So thurs. rides will start at 6pm. Lights are a must. If you ride during the day be sure to wear bright cloths as if we don't already but you should have lots of orange. They will shot you gut you and drag you out of the woods hang you head on the wall and tell storys how they shot you. I'm a hunter so I know. I'll just take your bike!

Did anyone on Thursday night's ride find an arm warmer in the lot? Seem to have lost one.

Skills Clinic

Some talk of a skills clinic garnered energy, so I'll throw this out there. It will be held at a park in Chambersburg. It won't be at the the pump track, but the track is an easy ride away if anyone wants to hit that afterwards.

We won't be doing any Supermans, but we will get the rear wheel in the air. You could call this a rear wheel clinic actually, it's pretty much all we'll do. E-mail me if you're interested. If you don't have my e-mail, Comment this post and I'll get yours. Vote (over there on the right) for which day is better. Will probably last for 1.5-2 hours.
