Sweat vs. Aluminum

I decided to put new bar tape on my road bike this morning. After removing the old tape I am considering new bars. It appears that sweat and aluminum don't mix! Anybody have some carbon bars for sale? Bucky?

    Ride

    Hey Gang;
I've been trying to think of some new stuff to ride but all I get is a blank. Not surprising. So I guess we can go blunder around up at Pine Grove furnace. I would like to meet at the parking lot before Pine Grove where we go across the road and climb the small hill at the lot. That way we don't have to ride up the road because Community service is closed to us. Any ? let me know. Ride time 9am.

Sunday fun day at Schaeffer Farms

    Hey MBMers -
I'm heading down to Schaeffer Farms in Germantown, MD (near Frederick) on Sunday morning with some friends to ride. If you haven't been there before, it's SS friendly with numerous log crossings and trials stuff spread throughout the park. It's a fun time and worth the drive. Meet in the parking area at 10am ;-)
Also FYI, YAMBA is coordinating a camp trip to Raystown the weekend of Sept 25th.
I hope every one is well and let me know if you're down for Sunday Fun Day at Schaeffer Farms.

    Curse of Dark Hollow Pics

Here are some pictures from the race today.  Congratulations to everyone!  What a great day we had to ride!  My family was there and cheered for all the MBM'ers and took pictures of the red white and green whenever they could.

My boys run beside dad yelling encouragement.  Fun stuff!

    Done!  Sweet!

Yes, someone actually did ride the curse on a unicycle.  It took him 3 hours but he did it!

    THANKS

Thanks so much to everyone that stuck around to see me finish. Your cheers really meant the world to me. It's great to have you all as friends.

    Another Fisher bites the dust...

The bike survived The Curse of Dark Hollow but it won't be seeing another one. At least I won't be hearing any more comments about my girly bike anymore. And I don't have to worry about Trish grabbing my bike by mistake again. I'm SURE that I would have beaten Rob today if it weren't for that crack robbing 95% of my power. Yeah, that's it. Good job, Rob! I'll get you at Teaberry.
    Goodbye Paragon...hello Superfly! :-)))

    Race Day!

My son Darek and I were spectators today. Darek snapped some nice actions shots of everyone coming down Yellow Ridge!

    Dale earning his lunch.
    Stevie Seeber flying along.

Womens Leader. She was the most entertaining racer!! She was yelling and having fun. Plus sticking her tongue out at Darek.

    Paul in SS form.

    Rob in persuit!

    Chuck flying along.

    wildlife predictions

Jody and I had a leisurely ride in southern Michaux today. One mile into the ride I nearly knocked three raccoon cubs out of their tree with my head. Luckily two of them stayed put for a photo shoot. After bonding with the wildlife we proceeded on our ride keeping an eye out for a sign as to the pace we might throw down in the up coming Dark Hollow race. The sign soon came although not exactly what I hoped for.

    Help Wanted

A couple volunteer opportunities next weekend.

New trails are being built *in a PA State Park*.
The Laurel Hills Off Road Bicycling Association are building in Shawnee State Park on July 19th. One good thing about this for us is that the park isn't quite out in the Laurels, it's only a bit past Bedford. This is a big deal getting to add mountain bike trails in a State Park. Situations like we have in Pine Grove Furnace are much more common in the Parks. Contact me if you want to help, and I'll put you in touch with LHORBA. BTW, the organizer of this is a retired 24-Solo woman,.........,who says racers don't give back??

The Curse is also that Sunday the 19th, and Rich can use some volunteers at the usual positions. Contact me or use the race site for details. Me??? After working 3 races in Michaux so far this season, I'm looking forward to sticking a number plate on for this one.

    Monday Pump Track Phun

The Wiser Weiser and I are planning to roll the pump track on Monday. Prolly be there around 5:30.

It's really a bonus to returning a dead keg to Pitz and filling some growlers, but, hey, whatever works.

Hope to see some locals. C'mon out and wish Donna a happy half-birthday.

    Breck Epic

    pic stolen from Tomi

    Anyone following this?
    You oughta be.
Some great blogs and pics up and about.
Go HERE for the event site and stage/overall results.

Locals Tomi McMillar and Mike Kuhn are out there doing what they can at altitude.

Tomi is, of course, fixed, while Kuhndog is running a 2x9 setup.

Rich Dillen (Team Dicky) is another good read.

Jeremiah Bishop and Travis Brown are duking it out in the lead for the whole enchilada.

And, Harlan Price is sitting 8th in the Solo Male category. Not bad for a bunch of lowlanders.

    Thursday, July 09, 2009

Ryan and Steph came all the way from Harrisburg for the Thursday night ride.

Thanks for makin' the trip. I hope you enjoyed it.

Tuesday Night Back O' The Pack Ride

Want to come out for a group ride but are nervous about jumping in with the seasoned Michaux riders?  Join the "Back O' The Pack" on Tuesday evenings as we work to improve our fitness and have some fun.  This week I'm considering running the Sport loop of the Long Pine Classic race that just ran on Sunday.  There are many opportunities to change our route and tailor the ride to whoever wants to come.  If you are new and would like to come out please post here so I know who to expect and can tailor the ride accordingly.

Here's Martin, leading the race at the time. I heard that he led it through the last water stop at the powerline. Hard to imagine how someone could catch him on the downhills after that

    Long Pine Classic

Great event and course today at Long Pine, many thanks to the promotors and helpers. Chuck was first MBM rider (that I saw) to the top of Canada Hollow climb during the 22 mile expert race and Trish was only a few minutes behind. Chuck had a strong showing and it was fun heckling (for motivation of course)him up the hill . Trish was also strong and in 7th place going up Hollow. The 15 mile sport course was a blast but in retrospect I should have done the "Full Pull" as Larry would say. Larry used the word sandbagging as I topped the second climb which I took as a compliment and Seeber asked me why I was riding with the children after my race. My 10th place finish confirmed I was in the correct group although I wish the sport loop was longer. Felt better in the closing miles than in the beginning. Did not stay to see the final results of the expert race, hopefully someone will post.

    7-11 Raystown Ride

Me and the Mooch are riding Raystown July the 11th. We will be heading out early ( I'm thinking 7-ish from the C-burg area) and hitting the trails for a morning session then break for lunch and then do as much as our legs will allow in the afternoon. Then hit Boxer's Pub on the way home for some refreshment. Boxers has excellent bar food and plenty of beers to choose from. If your not the bar type, Huntington has a pizza place too. Come on out and join us, it'll be a fun day.

    Sunday July 5th Ride

This Sunday is 'The Long Pine Classic'. If you're not doing this event and want to post a ride... have at it! The Chief will be away this weekend, lying on the beach somewhere....
