Sunday Ride, April 1st

I'd like to host this Sundays ride from my place and hit some trails the club seldomly rides.  If you're coming from Caledonia, take 233 north to Shippensburg Rd.  Turn right and go to the top of the mountain,as you crest the mountain slow down, my driveway is the 1st one on the right, a green mailbox with the number 15 on it(right at the end of the guardrail)  There's plenty of parking for everyone.  Feel free to bring cold beverages to enjoy after the ride, and we can even fire up the grill too.

New 4' Law Goes into Effect on Monday

HARRISBURG - A law that sets new rules for Pennsylvania motorists to follow when encountering a bicyclist takes effect on Monday morning. The law, designed to improve safety and traffic flow, was signed by Governor Tom Corbett on Feb. 2.

The new law requires motorists to leave a 4-foot "cushion of safety" when passing a bicyclist. To achieve this cushion, drivers may cross a roadway's center line when passing a bicycle on the left, but only when opposing traffic allows. Drivers attempting to turn left must also yield the right of way to bicycle riders traveling in the opposite direction.

"The differential in speed is the biggest safety challenge with motor vehicles and bicycles sharing our state's roadways," said PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch. "I urge all drivers and cyclists to learn the rules of the road to better share our highways and make travel safer for all."

The new law also calls for bicycle riders to use all reasonable efforts to avoid impeding the normal flow of traffic. When there is only one travel lane, bicyclists may use any portion of the lane to avoid hazards on the roadway, including maintaining a safe distance from stopped and parked cars.

As always, bicyclists and motorists should obey all traffic signs and signals. PennDOT also recommends bicyclists always ride predictably and signal their intentions before proceeding so that motorists have a chance to react.

Spring is officially here. Welcome to MBM if you are new to the group. If you're still thinking about joining its time to commit! Come Ride With Us! This year we have stepped up our game. I want to thank everyone who is working hard behind the scenes to make this year one of the best years ever!

The Maximus Race is less than one month away! MBM will represent with riders in the 40, 20 and 10 mile races. We will also have a membership drive prior to the race and support a checkpoint during the race. If you are not racing we would love to have some help at the membership tent or the checkpoint. Gettysburg should post a race pre-ride the week before the race. Watch for it even if you don't plan on racing. Learn trails and understand why they call it endurance racing!

This year we have new jerseys to sport at the races. Thanks to our past pres, Bucky, the jerseys should be here next week and we'll all have them just in time for the first race!!! As soon as they arrive he will post up with information on how to pick up your jersey. Stay tuned.

If you've seen the calendar then you know our first intermediate ride will be Saturday April 14th. This group ride will be for anyone interested in joining MBM or anyone interested in learning some intermediate trails. We'll have seasoned riders on hand to answer questions and lead a group ride. Now that spring is here it's time to clean up the trails. Our first trail clean up date will be in April. More info will be posted on that soon.

These frames are well built. I've only seen one report of one breaking online and Freeze Thaw Cycles in State College (Where I bought it) sold many of them and told me they've never seen one break. Definitely a quality you want in a used bike in Michaux!

Hey Guys, If any of you know Brian Fults you might want to check this out. We are doing a fundraiser ride for his fight against cancer over in tuscarora in conjunction with one of the MASS races. Weather is good. Clocks have jumped ahead. Planning to ride from Mont Alto at 5pm on Thursday evening. Planning a 'daylight' non-racepace loop, no need for lights - back to car by 7pm, no later.

Thursday Night Ride

I'm riding at the Watershed on Thursday around 5. We are meeting @ Sandflats. Let me know if you are interested.

Was riding over at michaux road tuesday night and went through area where there was a deer fence the pass few years (the one we crawl through orange gates). The one at the bottom of rattlesnake extra trail from gettysburg bike spring race.

I was cutting over to xxxx trail area and notice after i rode the road section it seem weird no fence. I use to avoid the area because of time it took going through the fence.

I made it to town unexpectedly. Anyone want to ride my proposed Enduro loop tomorrow? I need to be done by 2. Time is flexible.

Anyone for Go-Karting

My other hobby is go-karting which also scratches that "need for speed" itch many of us have. I've mentioned this to some of you. Anyone interested in heading to Allsports GP on March 17th for some go-karting? These are high speed european-style go karts not those slow karts at the miniature golf place. Allsports GP is in Sterling, VA near Dulles Airport. About 90 minute drive.
