Shed Iced

Went to the Shed for a ride. It is iced just like Mont Alto. Time to break out the studs.

Stumpy said that he wants some big, hot studs. I guess they dig into the ice better?

What studded tires do you recommend?

Merv's bike Shop has some 26" studded tires. Not sure of the brand and not sure if it even matters.

Go to ICEBIke.com and you can read about all things ice. Nokian tires are the way to go. The lose studs slower than other brands. Go on line to buy. They are costly--$100 per tire if you don't find a deal. They last a long time.

I rode the shed today. Studs make all the difference. On a frozen surface, you can get better traction than on dirt. Your climbing on a steep iced surface will be limited by leg strength, not traction.
