Please don't "improve" any lines down here.

Great project for hunting season down time! Finally, I will be able to ride all of Mackey. Where are we going to put all of those rocks?

Only move rocks with Property OF MBM stamped on them you haters !!

Thems are my rocks!! "do not touch"

Tomi said...

maybe ya'll should spend less time wanking on the internet and more time riding, then you won't need to 'improve' things.

Tomi said...

oh, I'm sorry, was that out loud?

Bender said...

Please, please tell me this is a joke. If it's not then do yourself and everyone else a favor and ride your mountain bike on 233. There are no rocks, logs, or technical lines that you will have to go around or alter in anyway. Once you master that you can move up to rail trails and then maybe some fire roads.

I just tape small rocks right to my tires for practice....it really works!

Anonymous said...

Who do you all think these trails belong to?

Thems my trails, my preschious!

If you don't like them stay out of my woods nancys.

Get a road bike.

Anonymous said...

All the trails should stay the way they were built and intended by the builders...occasionally they may need some maintenance when something falls or is pushed out of place??? If you don't like the trails build one that suits your riding skills and we will not change it. nuff said!

I don't know what you peeps are talking about? There is no trail building allowed in MSF.

If there were, we probably wouldn't have these kinds of discussions.

camps said...

Can we return to talking about bacon, lights, fluffy bunnies, or how about Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day, which is tomorrow in Ch-burg at 2 PM.

Anonymous said...

contrare camps....there is a new one just finished! I can't tell you where it is but it's happening!

shorts said...

The weather for tomorrow is supposed to be decent. Make sure all you nancies out there get your kids to the pump track and TAKMB...TOMORROW! See you there!

Mr. Sunshine said...

this is too easy! don't you hate it when your own words contradict you.

OH, if the trails could stay the way they were built. The trails from the late 90's are long gone.

Thems were good trails when they were mine all mine.

Trail education and maintanance in the michaux state forrest. Such a false hope to the new generation.

Tomi said...

clowny,

who are you talking to?

"contrare camps....there is a new one just finished..."

Anonymouse,
you may have missed the keyword in my post. That said, I hope the line putter inner stamps a "finished" mark on it.

Lets say for example, in the GWNF, where trail building is allowed with approval, that it takes riders a month of weekends to build a singletrack. During that time the riders are begging for helpers, and are out there many times/week working on sections. Helpers also get out there when they can and find plenty to do with brushing, stumping, whacking, filling etc., not to mention bench cutting. After a month, everyone is jonesin' to ride and tired of working. The last 1/2 mile was kind of a rush job. They all recognize that the trail is not 100% perfect (is any?). There is always a section that could use more bench, more rock, a drainage fix, pungy removal etc. Do the builders hang a sign that says "finished, do not work on this trail any more"?

Maybe they should? Maybe they have to take it down in March after winter moisture, and do some more work.

This is really several arguments:
dumbing down
dumbing up (making harder)
log fairies
stunts
clearing a 54" log
clearing a 24" log
draining a puddle
making a new line around a chronic puddle
making a new line over a cool rock that the original putter inner didn't notice (or didn't have time)
yadda yadda

my point is there are lots of point to this

I've been riding in Michaux since 91 and the majority of the "Well Built Trails" have stayed consistant to builders intent. Yes they mature and degrade from use and weather but Grave Ridge is still Grave Ridge and 3 Mile Trail is still Three Mile trail even after the motorcycles rip it up!

Anonymous said...

"As Intended" to the builder are the key words. To drastically change the any trail for his or her skill level is what it is???

maintenance is always needed and I've done a ton of that this year in Michaux without any help....I didn't need it.

People ride trails that they can handle...

Anonymous said...

Building a trail on public land dosen't give you entitlement to it's use and comoposition. That is up to the thems land managers. " Levi and the DCNR folk"

Thems the commonwealth's rocks

One should however respect a trail for what it is and the ride the trails they like.

I am quite confident that I was one of the first Mountain Bikers of Michaux. I have been riding in the forest unmolested (except by Travis) for years. Enjoy the trails, embrace the challenge, find the line by learning rather than altering. If you don't like logs and rocks try riding somewhere else. If you can't hop a log that does not mean that you should remove it (or cut out half for your purpose), what you should do is practice jumping logs. As for Larry's words....take them with a grain of salt and in the spirit they were delivered. Leave the trails alone.

Just like it's the police who tell us what we can and can't smoke? Lol "The Spirit of the Law" as forgotten by many who see things so black and white!

This is like watching the Special Olympics.

Anonymous said...

No. I was the first mt. biker in the Michaux State Forest you chump.

I was riding before you were a gleam in your father's eye.

You wankers outta get out more.

Grave Ridge is alot different than it was just 5 years ago - what are you talking about?

Mr. Sunshine said...

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, I own the Forest. I own Mackey! Don't touch my rocks! That was not my intent!
Brett is right.

Chief said...

WOW.......... Not to change the subject but anyone interested in doing some trash pick up on Staley in the near future? i think all the crawlers went to bed.

I wish someone would touch my rocks.

30! I'm gonna pave all the trails and you all can kiss my ass!

#31 just because I can!

Buck said...

#32 anyone have a bulldozer I can use for a few weeks?? Oh yea and a black topping machine?

Buck said...

NEXT STOP WILL BE THE SHED D!

I agree with Brett. This is the special olympics of posts. Anyone who thinks MBM dumbs down trails obviously doesn't ride with our club enough to know the truth.

Nevada said...

Wow, feel the love of the rocks. More comments than any post I have ever seen.

Tomi - that thinking out loud stuff is funny!!

Buck - just because you can do something does not make it a good idea #35!

I thought bigfoot ruled the forest?

Tractor said...

You all might be the first mountain bikers in Michaux,....But I, yes,...me,me,me,me,me,me,me,...am definitely the first forest molester! Damn,.. Just when I was starting to like that “Tractor” nickname. Please, don't anyone mistake this for an MBM/Cupcake bash. Jody is still hot about the phone call. Jody, maybe you oughta’ pet that chihuahua you've been teabaggin' while fondling the keyboard back through a years worth of posts. You gettin’ a visual?...I am. That dog will loosen his grip! Then you can have a happy day, ...you know, with sunshine and everything! And maybe, yes maybe, you and I can make nice, nice and stop draggin' everyone else into it. But I betcha' we'll hit 50 comments! Unless ofcourse, someone puts up another good post about bacon! Someone please, please bring home the bacon,....fry it up in a pan,..a never, ever, ever, forget you a man,.... Lets move on. Larry, feel free to delete this comment.

brett said...

Nevada, it's not bigfoot in these parts, it's the Michaux MoFo.

pabiker said...

We've already paved the Shed. It's suburban riding nothing too difficult. No reason to come down here, there's nothing to see. Really.

Mr. Sunshine said...

Why do you like that Tractor nick name. Are you implying that YOU build illegal trails in Michaux. It a slippery slope that you've created here isn't it. If I can go back and read old posts Levi can too dumbass. When you get busted you'll only have you're ME,ME,ME,ME,ME"self to blame. Don't call me pissing and moaning about removing a post so you don't get busted. You screwed yourself brother.

Bender said...

Well that settles it. I absolutely have to get a hold of one of those awesome t-shirts now.

Anonymous said...

Who and how do you guys think trails like curumba, waynes, buckets, weistling, spooge, stooges....the list goes on on and on! We built or opened those trails in the mid 90's when things were a lot different! The club was different!

I can see where this is going. Certain people need trails like Virginia and Mackey to calm that monkey on their back, the venerable addiction, the scratch in their throat, the need for rocky, loggy, technical single track. Once they clean a trail they must find that next buzz, that next line, that route through the garden they will face off with until they once again master the line. They always need a newer, stronger trail buzz because the one they've been hitting doesn't get them high anymore. In time there will be or may now be newer trails which taunt mackey and mock virginia. These will be cut in by those who shutter at the thought of removing a log, throwing a rock or circumventing that which is rideable. These people should just bushwack. Then the line will constantly change, they will be riding a living trail in their ultimate face off with nature. Routes that cannot be retraced and thus cannot be called trails at all.
B-B-B-BUSHWACKERS!!!
Actually, I was just blathering to get us closer to 50. I could really give a rats ass who throws a rock or cuts a log or fills in a hole. Don't care, never did.

Timma said...

I'll start off that i believe trails need to be maintained (not changed). the trail was built the way it was for a reason. and it sounds like it is a hard trail so it must be intended for experienced riders. so beginers, simply ride an easier trail. AND most of all NO ONE owns the forest. so no one has the right to change anything with out the states permission. ( i believe ) and if i'm wrong correct me. so why fight over who owns the forrest and this trail and another. If you want to make a trail buy some wooded land and do with it what you please but don't ruin everyone else's riding space. So now can all you little kiddies just get along and ride mountain bikes since that is what this club is about?!? you all stress me out so i might just go eat bacon to calm my nerves now. ugh

Anonymous said...

Don't forget why we ride mountain bikes in the first place. It's not to argue over rocks and logs....it is about solitude in the woods, time with friends, and whatever your need is!

What I am sayin' is don't let yourself be led astray by a few "safety stoppers" who have grand hallucinations sometimes! (The ganja makes them see and hear things that just aren't there.)

Bender said...

Just like the beer and wings makes some too fat to get their wide asses over the logs and through the rock gardens. Hey, wait a minute, are those rock gardens and logs REALLY there? This is some gooooood shit.

brett said...

There is no spoon.
