yer screwed, kegley! sorry! forest roads are NOT plowed, as a rule. the only sections that are plowed are the bits the loggers themselves plow to get back to their work. most of the rest have been run down by snowmobiles into icy hardpack, still pushing a foot + thick in areas. well, who knows, depending on conditions, if it's frozen, maybe you can ride the snowmobile tracks with studs?midatlantic back country is always a crapshoot! email me closer to the weekend to see what the current and impending eather systems may do. it was snowing at the top of the mountain last night.
clarification--there are some bits that are plowed...but not enough to assume that a chosen route will be entirely clear.Milesburn Road to Birch Run Road around the reservoir. Not sure if Birch Run is plowed the whole way out to Ship Road.Ridge Road is plowed from 233 to High Mtn Road.High Mtn is plowed. Michaux Rd is plowedPeach Orchard Rd is plowed.Other than these, it seems to be logging dependent.
How much snow last night?
a light coating. but it was nicer than the rain in harrisburg at quitting time. still got out to xc ski.
We luckily got almost no rain in Ch-burg, and light flurries, though some of the flurries were a little on the loud side.Did it put a skiable coating on the crust?
meh? define skiable. i have a pretty loose definition. we were able to ski it...
Heading North for better winter bike riding conditions is definitely a counter-intuitive approach. What about going to Harrisonburg, VA?
Darius, I just want to get a jump on the Iron Cross. We have had a ton of snow melt around here.
Yeah, it's only seven or eight months away - time to get focused.
It was nice out yesterday, so I decided to take my bike to Mount Alto. OK, the parking lot - there is no parking lot. I drove up to the road - which was plowed up to the second water treatment thingy, got my bike out ready to ride to the fire tower and sloosh - 1 foot of slushy. Too soft to ride on, too thick to ride through. I am sick of the trainer. I may have to tuff it out on the road bike soon.
