what do you mean, global warming is precisly why the weather is crazy, the earth is warming and the sky is cooling, screwing everything up...If it too hot, it's global warming, if it's too cold (aka disrupted weather patterns due to global warming) it's also global warming

In other words regardless of what happens it is global warming? What a great Con, first convince well meaning people of impending climate apocalypse. Then convince them regardless of what happens it affirms their belief. And finally propose a solution, (Cap and Trade)Tax and regulate everything, Hybrid cars with toxic Mercury batteries, Poisonous fluorescent light bulbs. With time all of these "solutions" will ultimately do more harm than good to the environment. Snow in the winter is normal. What melted the glacier that covered nearly all of North America 7000 years ago? Cave men campfires? Buffalo farts? Weather is a function of natural cycles related to the Sun and the precession of the Earth on its axis. Only a fool thinks he can influence it one way or the other. Global Warming is 100% a political con and 0% science!

Ok I will do my part. I promise to own fewer jets and live in a smaller house than Al Gore. I will also accept carbon credit payments beginning immediately. To participate send me money and I will stay home, not drive and ride my bike. I will avoid TP and use only a bedet for hygiene. This should reduce my carbon footprint. Anything for the planet!

Holy cow
I fart about everyday, well maybe more than that. Just doing my part. I even fart on my bike. Didn't know that did ya. Makes ya climb better.

One of the reasons I don't follow Dale...

rob - nice rant. I was waiting for that. If you let me live in your servant's quarters I promise not to use TP too.

Who wants to talk about health care?

Good thing this is only your summer home!

Don't worry chief, we have all been aware of you farting while riding for quite some time.

i thought this was a mtn biking blog and other fun stuff...not a political soapbox...unless it has directly to do with trails and rec.

good to see that there are at least a few people that aren't bleeding heart liberals that mountain bike!

way to stereotype, anonymous.

I think the grumpy owner of this house needs to pick up some xc skis and head up that hill onto the ridges and embrace this round of global/climate/cooling/warming/natural cycle/snow/change.

;)

I guess to call male liberals homogametic is stereotyping too?

Anon: you are a dumbass.

Brett, fair enough, I will try to limit my posts to fun stuff and mountain biking etc. This is what happens to me when I am off the bike to long.

Camps did you say Health Care?...

camps said...

Yes Rob I did, but never mind....

It was also me that suggested the xc skiing so you can get some energy release. You've got the perfect locale for that, other than that initial climb...

rob said...

Camps perhaps you can give me an XC ski tutorial, never did it. Any time you want to ski from my place your welcome to come up. Have a bad knee does that matter?

jmblg said...

rob, my response was to open the door up for someone (you) to nail it, and you did! ok, lets talk mtb'ing...hmmmm, hmmm, kiss my a$$ if the snow won't go befoe michaux mash

Rob: You must live near the C&O canal, as I do. I have been skiing the tow path. Flat and straight. No skills needed. Today, my wife went. She had knee surgery a few months ago and was fine. I think this type of skiing would not adversely impact your knee. However, you can get a great aerobic workout. Skiing in rough terrain might be a different story. In any case, I think you would be so happy, you'd probably vote democratic in the next election.

There is not one respected scientist on the planet who doubts the validity of global warming caused by human activity. Many quibble about timelines and solutions, but no one doubts that we have seriously disrupted the nature of things.

You can crawl under a rock and pray for snow, but that don't mean it ain't happening.

It's funny how uneducated people seem to equate their back yard to a global phenomenon. Small minds are funny.

Hey anonymous. Phil Jones, head climate scientist from East Anglia University (a UN sponsored endeavor)and the source of the man made global warming hoax, admits the climate has not warmed since 1995 despite previous claims. He has also recently admitted that much of the data used to construct the theory of man made climate change has been fraudulant (and politcally motivated to advance cap and trade type policies around the world). If science degrees to the doctorate level make me uneducated so be it. What do you base your belief on? Al Gore? Faith? Non government, non UN funded scientist clearly know the truth that mans activities do not change the climate. One massive volcanic eruption puts more CO2 in the air than the total world population for decades.

pabiker, the they all agree argument is simply not true and nother more than a debate tactic, not science. The only "scientists" who agree are on the dole. Huge conflict of interest, most of them will lose funding if they don't "believe". The independent thinkers know better.

Rob,
Check out NASA's report that shows 2009 was the warmest year on record and the last decade was also the warmest on record. Of course why would you trust those damn tree hugging hippies at NASA? They've only put men on the moon. From a pragmatic standpoint isn't reducing emissions a good thing? Who cares if it's done in the name climate change. The result is cleaner air. Cyclists in the Northeast could use cleaner air!!!

Anonymous, I love the outdoors and am against polution as much as anyone. Agreed we should all be good stewards. What I don't believe is that Man has any measurable impact on the climate. I don't believe CO2 is a polutant, we all exhale it with every breath and plants need it for their life cycle. The norm for our planet is cycles of warm and cold, ice ages and warming trends. This has always been the case. Lately some "scientists" have been making two false assertions, 1. that man is the issue and 2. there has been a dramatic increase in temp uncharacteristic of world history. Unfortunately even NASA has become highly political becuasue if they don't reach the "correct" conclusions their funding and jobs are on the line. Google search Phil Jones and East Anglia university scandal and you will see for yourself how most of the "data" is garbage and has been tampered with. This comes from the lead scientists own confessions after he was caught. To reiterate I love the planet and the wonderful people on it, especially the mountain bike crowd. Unfortunately many people passionate obout the earth fall prey to a great lie. What ever the government does to try to fix what is natural will lead to serious unintended consequences that will do more harm to mankind than doing nothing at all.

Anonymous said...

I agree Rob. It's very difficult to say if man is causing climate change. I do believe in being as low impact as possible. Leave no trace.

Thanks for the dialog. Always good to debate with someone!

"...norm for our planet is cycles of warm and cold, ice ages and warming trends. This has always been the case..."

What hasn't always been the case in the planet's history is combustion engines and coal plants. They've helped shift the balance over the last 150 yrs.

"....What ever the government does to try to fix what is natural will lead to serious unintended consequences that will do more harm to mankind than doing nothing at all..."

Many smart people don't believe this. Many smart people drink the other color kool-aid too. The kind colored exxon-mobil-blue.

The fact that the climate occasionally changes over the course of the earth's history should make one critical of any theory that says THIS TIME it is due to man, internal combustions engines or anything other than natural phenomenon.

Tell me again what melted the ice that covered all of Canada and most of the USA less than ten thousand years ago?

There is nothing about our climate today that is not typical of earth's history. It has been both hotter and colder over the millenia.

Believing something does not make it true. What real evidence is there that MAN MADE CO2 affects the climate of the globe? I can produce more evidence that the tooth fairy is real.

People can believe what they will, this topic has become emotional and not rational and more like religion than science. I have considered both possibilites and initially like many I was concerned and alarmed. Only after months and years of critical thought and analysis have I concluded it is a big lie which is politically motivated. At the last World UN sponsered climate change meeting who were some of the biggest advocates? Robert Mugabe, Hugo Chavez and the like. Some of the biggest murderes on the planet. They like the lie and them like others see this as a way to extort the industrialized world. Many groups have a lot to gain by this expoitation that is why so many have piled on.

Rob...you are RIGHT ON! The crazy thing is that this has become a left vs right arguement when the reality is that both sides manipulate the date and public to fund their cause! When we see for ourselves and investigate truth we realize that following a party's agenda blindly is foolish! Politicians lie on both sides...that' the way it is! Following one party's agenda is to be blind that is why I can't fully subscribe to either fully! Think outside the box...don't follow....lead!

Yes my brothers and sisters avoid group political think no matter how comforting or popular it may be. Think independently and reject bullshit from where ever it may arise and don't be afraid to stand up and say so. And don't feel the need to be "moderate" which really means you are either conflicted or don't know and are hedging your bets.

If anyone is interested in a continuation of scientific debate on global warming and man's influence check out accuweather.com. Joe Bastardi, senior scientist/weather forecaster at accuweather based in state college PA makes a strong argument against "man made" global warming. For those in the other end of the pond there are plenty arguing your point of view also. Check it out if you want to continue this excercise. I think it is important that what ever you believe you think about it critically and try to find real science to back it up. So as not to make our MBM blog political I will leave this discussion in this thread and not revisit it elsewhere (unless provoked) so as not to spoil the recreational intent of our blog. Oh and I am in favor of puppies! See something we can all agree on.
