Somewhere in Michaux

Finished the month of March up with a fun ride trying some technical stuff and trying to get some photos, the lighting was horrible and the camera settings were off a bit but we had fun anyways.  Best thing is we can always go out and try it again.

And then we came across this guy

2011 Tour de Cure-Team MBM - Sunday June 19th

**NOTE - NEW DATE FOR THE MTB CHALLENGE - SUNDAY JUNE 19th**

Dear Friends and Fellow MBMers:

Join our Tour de Cure Club Team! With your support, there's hope! Diabetes can take an enormous emotional and physical toll on people with diabetes and their families. You can help us stop diabetes by joining our MBM Team and raising funds to help the American Diabetes Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.

The tour is happening June 11 and 19, with the 11th being the road ride in Boiling Springs and Sunday the 19th is the Mountain bike challenge at the Big Flat Parking lot.

There will be 2 course options this year. Maybe the course designer could leave a comment on the description of both! :)

Together we can stop diabetes. One mile at a time.

Sincerely,
Donna Weiser

Tuesday Ride 5pm

Meet at the Big Flat parking area.
Ride time 5pm.

The Cat's Meow of a Reroute is Open

Thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday and helped finish opening the Wildcat reroute! The trail is open for business after two work days with strong showings. Howard, Larry and I were all very happy with the turnouts--around 20 the first day and around 12 the second. Awesome stuff! The new trail is about 2 miles of more ridgetop riding. I'd post pictures, but I gave my camera to Hans to use and the only picture I found was one of me standing in the bushes. I guess we should get better with these new-fangled image taking apparatii, like those Merry Land boys apparently are. So, the trail is open and rideable, but it's not done yet! There will be some more work days posted up for tweaking a couple rock sections and other stuff. Larry is going to contact Forestry about blazing it, too. We thought that the club could offer the labor to blaze and sign if Forestry supplies the materials. Again, thanks, everyone for coming out!

Saturday "Trail Work/Ride" Big Flat 9:00am

The way the weather forcast is shaping up at this point, Saturday might be our best shot at getting a decent, dry ride in this weekend. Of course, riding will have to wait until after the trail work. So, if you plan on working the trail, bring your bike along and plan on riding the trail also. If you can`t secure your bike on or within your vehicle while working, just ride it out to the worksite. See ya there!!!

More Info from Brett:

Figure on about 3 hours again for those with schedules and stuff. If you can help out from 9 to noon, we would pretty darn happy!

Again, we'll split into at at least two crews--one will tweak the section we cut last time (a couple corners need realigned, a bit more raking here and there, a little more pruning, etc.) while another crew will work on cutting in the remaining line. The first crew can come up and help the second after the tweakage is done.

If you bring your bike to ride in to the work site, bring a pack you can haul loppers, pruners or a folding saw in, please!

The first use of the club BOB might be on Saturday since Ho is foaming at the mouth to give it a run. We can haul the bigger stuff on that, like rakes and sledgehammers!

Don't forget gloves, water and snacks to keep the strength up and see you Saturday!

If we get another great turnout, this thing might be open for business after Saturday.

Raystown - April 15-17 Trip Details

So far we have about 15 people that have said they are going. I checked in with the ranger station and found out that there are no reservable campsites at this time of year, but we shouldn't have a problem with getting multiple sites in a row. Brett and I are taking the day off and are planning on getting there mid-day to get enough sites together for all of us.

Sites are $25 each per night and allow up to 2 tents or camping units and 10 people.

If you are definitely coming, please let me know and/or send/give me a check for either a whole site for $50 (2 nights) or half a site for $25 (2 nights), if you want to share.

We will try to get sites in the loop by the large pavillion in Meadow Camp.

Raystown rules and regs here.

We will be doing rides Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday. So far there is no organized food or beverage, but open to suggestions---potluck on Saturday night? Go to Boxer's Cafe in Huntingdon?

sessions?

Any interest in running the Monday Night pump track sessions again?
6PM-8PM, come and go as desired.
we could start the rides next week. We need enough regulars so that there's more likelihood that some will be there on Monday nights. Post pump thirst-busters could be fun. Most peeps aren't out hammering on Mondays, consider it recovery.
comment here if interested

there's a larger track in the works nearby, if there are enough bikers interested to justify it.

Tuesday 5pm

Park near the intersection of Milesburn and Baltimore Rd.
I actually think this end of Milesburn is called Milesburn Hollow but google doesn't show it that way. Park on Milesburn off to the side somewhere.

2nd Wildcat Trail Reroute Workday

The 2nd workday is scheduled for Saturday March 26th, 9:00am @ Big Flat parking lot. Bring the same equipment that you brought last time, tools, food, drink, etc. We`re hoping to have the trail opened up and ridable at the end of the work session, so if we have even close to the same turnout as last Saturday, finishing things up should not be a problem. By the way, thanks again for all the hard work everyone put in on Saturday. We hope to see everyone there again in 2 weeks!

Thor's Hammer??

Legend has it that one rainy evening the fictitious Johnny Utah was riding in the great forest. Johnny came to the sad realization that his conditioning was not up to par. It was at this sad moment of realization that he finds the Legendary Sledge Hammer with a W on it leaning against a tree. As the rain falls he wonders if it was Thor's Hammer? Johnny proceeds to wield the mighty weapon in one hand as he rides hoping the powerful Hammer would help him get home. Alas, he was never heard from again. And somewhere out there is a Hammer with a W on it. Maybe someday you too will find it.

Thursday Mont Alto Rides

This week kicks off the famous Thursday evening rides from Mont Alto at 5:00 pm!

Wednesday Ride

I'm going to ride from Mud Banks along 233 between Caledonia and Pine Grove at  3:00 tomorrow.  The time is a little flexible if someone wants to come along, but that doesn't exactly work.  Post up if you can make it.

Mike

Tuesday Ride 5pm

Anybody up for a ride this evening? Howard told me he needs to pass the Tuesday night ride gauntlet back to me. I'll be riding my single speed and am thinking about Teaberry but we could also ride an out and back on the new Wildcat we roughed in this past Saturday. It would do the trail good and it seems like a good early season ride.

Anybody interested? Big Flat 5:00pm?

Scott H.

Trail Work Day

A good day. Lots of bagels, bush-whacking, and all forms of BS-ing.
Bush whacking, bagels, and BS.
Diego, a participant......
in the other form of BS-ing.
From what the trail bosses tell me, 3/4's of the way through, with the hard part to come.
A good day in the woods.

Stream diverted

The logging to make way for the lifts for our new DH/free ride park is causing problems already.  The debris from the logging had the stream all clogged up and it has been diverted on the access road/trail from Quarry Gap Road to the Park office,  that is the new stream bed,  almost the entire length.  So if you're riding in the area and don't want to ride through axle deep water you might want to take a different route.

Dogfish Head, Bikes and Posting

>First of all, that is a real dogfish head. In fact, that is THEE real dogfish head! I'm just sayin'... I'm a big fan and had the chance to check out the brewery in Rohoboth. I'm going back. Wanna go????
I took my wife to the Pullo Center to see a show the other night. We arrived early and took a short walk and came across a nice skate and bike park. A really nice skate and bike park!

The entire place was packed with kids. One of which may become the next Sean White or Tony Hawk. This is behind the Pullo Center in York and I was absolutely jealous that I didn't have this in my town as a kid. Way to go York, PA!!

It took 1 hour and 39 minutes to get there going up 81, over 581 and down 83. I totally support community efforts like this. Nice!!!
Moving on.
Isn't this awesome that I can post my own stuff? You can too if you pay your dues. $10 a year gets you unlimited group rides, an awesome annual meeting with food and drink and the opportunity to learn from the foremost trail builders and riders in the area. We also support local races and events. AND you can post your own rides, info and blog worthy stuff!!!
Get to know who Utah actually is, find out if you're slower than Slow. Where is Secret Trail??? Get %15 off at the Red Robbin at the top of Yellow Ridge!! (I made that up)
Join a ride soon. Summer's coming!!!

Wildcat Trail Reroute Workday

Attention all mountain bikers, it is time to create the new Wildcat reroute. The new trail is all laid out and ready to clear. We need all the help we can get to clear the trail. The first workday is scheduled for Saturday March 12th, 9:00am at Big Flat parking lot. Anyone with a pickup is encouraged to bring it so that we can pile in and drive to a closer location that has limited parking, then hike to the trailhead. Also, if you have any tools that might come in handy, bring those as well. It`s gonna be a blast to ride when it`s finished, not to mention all the fun to be had while building it. So come on out and take part in building a protected trail that will inevitably outlive all of us.

Pre-race ride help

I can't say that I have ridden in the area of the Long Pine classic race much and would like to get a lap or two in on these trails before race day.  If anyone knows these trails by looking at the map and wants to go out for a ride and show them to me I'd really appreciate it.  My schedule is pretty flexible during the week if anyone can swing doing it then.

Tuesday Ride

Caledonia parking lot @ 5:00pm.

RIDE

Sunday looks like a wash out but I will still put out a ride location. Caledonia looks good again because all the different loops. So if it's not raining CATS & dogs I'll see you there. Ride time 9AM
