Rothrockin' in May

Hey, biznitches, we're heading somewhere to ride for a weekend again.

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

This time it's Rothrock SF, May 13-15. Donna and I have reserved site 35 at Greenwood Furnace SP for the weekend and plan to ride some/all/parts of two stages of the Transylvania Epic Saturday and Sunday. Friday will be a ride into the Cooper's Gap stuff. Jill Wiest might be joining us as well. And all you folks are invited, too. Come up for the weekend or for a day. You'll have to make your own camping arrangements, though! If you come up for the day and don't tell us about it, we leave at ridin' time whether you're there or not. Even if you do let us know you're coming up, and you're not there, we're leavin' at ridin' time.

We'll ride Stage 2 on Saturday from the park at around 10:00 or so. Expect a 5-hour ride. Bring munchies and water. We can refill water at Penn Roosevelt part way through.

Sunday will be Stage 6 starting from Penn Roosevelt SP around 11:00 or so. We'll break down camp and then drive over there so we can head straight home when we're done. At least 3 hours on Sunday. Sweet trails both days, with Tussey Ridge on Sunday.

Both days will be a mix of fireroads and trails, some big climbs, some big descents.Let us know if you're coming. It'll be riding totally different from Raystown, that's fo' damn sho.

And don't wait too long to make reservations if you want to camp.

Here's links for you to peruse. Greenwood Furnace SP website: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/greenwoodfurnace.aspx

Ho, they have pet sites, btw.

Raystown Video

RIDE

Sunday
Gettysburg will be having a preride of the race course. Check out there web site. The ride starts at 9am

MBM Traveling Correspondent

Ride the skinny, climb the slick rock face, make the switchback. The Buttermilk trail never disappoints and keeps getting better as the locals add new (high quality) features. Not like that tire flattening crap we keep finding in Michaux, right Dale?! If you're ever anywhere near Richmond, VA don't miss this trail!

MBM Jerseys

I've noticed a few members sporting some nice MBM jerseys,  how's a guy go about getting one of these? What options are available, pricing, etc....

Girls bike wanted

Does anybody have a bike that would fit a 9 year old girl? Looking for something inexpensive. I figured this was a good place to post since Mooch and Utah ride like 9 year old girls. Send me an email or post something here if you can help.

More Raystown Pics

Mike pretty much said everything that needs sayin'.

I think we all made the best out of what could have been a crappy weekend and had a great time.

Even saw a rainbow on the way home Sunday. No unicorns, though.

Some pictures from Raystown

First, what a great trip with some great people!  On Friday when the weather was perfect it was the Weiser's, Emory, Howard and I riding. We then had a nice evening around the campfire, with good food cooked over the open flames.

Saturday the rain started about 5am, the Weiser's headed out early before it got "too bad" (it was already horrible) then college boy Dan showed up and braved the rain, wind and cold temps in shorts and a short sleeved shirt.

Hardcore Mountain Bikers

After some long hot showers we headed into Boxer's in Huntingdon for about 4 hours of good food and drinks.  When our waitress was ready to go home we decided maybe we should go too.

Mr. Boxer
Since it was still pouring down raining we decided to head to the local coffee house, where we hung out playing monopoly and drinking warm beverages until we saw the sun peaking through the clouds.

Tycoon Weiser

Sunday we woke up to cool temps, and a brisk wind, but the rain had stopped and things were drying off nicely.  Three of the Weiser's friends from Clinton County, and Slow Ride showed up to ride with us.  I didn't get any pictures on Sunday because I was having too much fun ripping up the awesome single track, but I'm pretty sure Brett did and will share them with us. I've got some video footage to edit and will share that later when it's ready.

And here's what a weekend of fun does to your bike

RIDE

For those who aren't going to Raystown this weekend I'll be riding at Big flat this Sunday. Ride time 9am. Hope all the Raystown riders have good weather and a good safe ride.

Raystown update...

We are in Ridge Camp which is the loop just before you get to Meadow Camp which is closed due to budget cuts!

Sites 14, 15, and 16. We still have space for one more tent/car on site 14, so if you get here and we're not here, go ahead and get set up!

Please think good, happy, dry thoughts for us!!!!

Thursday ride

if anyone is interested in getting an early start to tomorrows group ride at Mont Alto I'm going to be starting at 3:30-4 doing some riding then meeting up with the group at 5.  Since I can't ride late because of work I'm going to start at the top that way I can bail out  when I need to leave, but would be willing to pick anyone up down at the park that wants to do the entire ride.  Easy way to get some extra good downhilling in.  Post up if you're interested.

Raystown Ride Details

Thanks for the pic Don!

Friday we are planning on meeting at the campground around 1pm and being on the bikes by 2pm for about a 2 hour ride.

Dinner Friday night will be on your own. If we can get sites in the Meadow camp, we will have use of the pavillion which has picnic tables and a huge fireplace.

Saturday ride for those day trippers will depart from the campsites at 10am, so plan on being there between 9 and 9:30!

For dinner Saturday night, we are planning on going to Boxer's Cafe in Huntingdon.

Since there is a group coming for a day trip on Sunday also, (see previous post), we will wait for them to arrive and head out with them around 10.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment or call. Also, if you've told me you're camping and now you're not, please let me know so we book the correct amount of campsites!

See you at Raystown!!

RAYSTOWN - Day Trip?

So, this weekend is the Rayestown Trip.
For those who are not camping for the weekend, I will be heading up on Sunday to make a day of it.
A suggestion would be to meet around 7 at the Sheetz in Greenvillage(997/11), or my house, which is nearby.
We could organize a little carpool/caravan - CONVOY!
Any interest?

monday night?

this rain might wash out the pump track session,
it was riding great this evening until the rain.
was anybody thinking of riding it Monday?
comment here,
I can check the track at lunchtime and see what it looks like,
if it's dry and we have interest, it's on
seems unlikely though

If you are missing the Sunday rides...

not only are you missing a chance to get or stay in shape,  hang out with some fun people (well at least most of them are pretty fun), learn and ride some cool trails, and see some great views.  Hope to see a few more of you out there on the next ride!

Sunday April 3rd Ride

Chief is having technical difficulties and asked me to post the ride for this Sunday. Pine Grove Furnace 9:00 am

Wildcat reroute closed!

The new Wildcat reroute opened up this month. However, after a recent environmental survey the new trail was closed because it illegally crosses a section of protected leaf covered rocks and logs. The survey concluded that the very rare, leaf covered rocks and logs aren't found anywhere else in Michaux. In addition it noted that the moss growing on the very rare rocks can only be found on the north side of most trees. The surveyors plan to clear cut the entire area so no further damage can be done by standing timber.
