Lights Anyone?

I`m in the market for a set of bike/helmet lights and was wondering if anyone might have some for sale. If not, could someone at least offer some advice on brands and where to pick them up?

Black Mo Race for the Y(mca-a)

Yo, racers! Just starting this race up this year. A great excuse to come up Saturday and enjoy some State College sweetness, then race on Sunday. Or just come on Sunday as race time is a travel friendly 10:45am. (can't Michaux do this?) 100% of your race fee goes directly to the YMCA. They help people stay healthy, won't you? That's my pitch. Sorry for the shameless promotion. Come up and win medals, maybe a prize or two, heckle the promoter, and enjoy a non-techy but stenuous course.

HO

I am back

I am back. http://funwithdevices.blogspot.com/can someone update the link on this blog for me. Not that my new blog is ground breaking but the old link is dead. Thanks, David.

Wednesday Ride???

Is anyone interested in riding Wednesday? I'll be out of town on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Need to get my MTB fix in Wednesday. Maybe a Norchaux ride? Bit of a later start maybe, if it would help anyone. Brett? Anyone??

map from last Oct.
this makes yesterday's jaunt more understandable. Turtle's future does look better than Upper Buckets and Hearth/Hermit. There were only a few marked trees on Turtle that I saw.
this map shows all the Landings we came across

trails workshop

click it

A horse rider sent this to me to help spread the word and get some mountain bikers involved. Looks like they're taking some trails stuff seriously, and this guy just attended a 3-day trails course at State College. Note the "Why" part specifically.

Would be smart to have some bikers and MBMers there. I'll be away that weekend/week. Weisers will be away. Time for our speedy new El Presi to make something happen? Damaged Inc? Cupcake Mafia? Never a better time and place to have horsers hear what we think, and maybe even get on the same team for some things.

If I could attend, I'd come ready with some locations that need some repair from hooves, like Trees of Tomorrow area, Upper Narrows etc?? I hope someone can make something happen out of this. How often do we get this kind of chance?

If you can't read the flier by clicking and zooming, let me know and I can e-mail it or try to paste in the text by itself.

Michaux Style

Dark Hollow

Hey, did anyone besides Larry, Steve and Travis do the Curse. If so how was it for you? I did not see anybody besides them. I found it to be rather hot at first then froze for a few minutes when it rained. Sprained my ankle at the start during the run. But I was able to finish the forty miler. Then it swelled up after the race. I could not walk on it yesterday. But it feels a lot better today. The forty was fun but tough. Wigwam sucks!

And Now for Some Good News

Or at least better news....

Forestry is hoping for final approval on the Wildcat reroute by October. At least that's the current hope and estimate.

Which means we might be able to build some new official trail in the upcoming "off season".

Whatchu think o' that?

Grave Ridge Timber Sale is Out for Bid

Ride it while it's here, people. The unstoppable timbering machine is grinding forward, trails or not.

Map o' the impending carnage:

Link to the original.

The top of the ridge is the boundary--they are logging the backside of the ridge, out of sight from rt. 233. The access road is going in across from Dead Woman Hollow. You can follow the dashed lines that are trails on the map to figure out where the haul road is overlapping the current trail. I've heard second, third, or fourth hand, that DCNR is going to re-establish the ATV trail after the logging, but it'll be surprising if it's close to the technical nature of the current trail.
